I suspect that if someone surveyed people who do the nitty-gritty work on the web, I refer to everyone from coders to web developers, web masters, VAs, and, last, but not least, the poor bloke who tries to figure things out on his or her own, one would find an unusually high number of bald-headed people...or anal-retentives.
That's because in many ways, the web is very unforgiving. Type a URL and accidently skip a space, mis-type a character and your whole screen goes kerfluey (Is that a word?--You know what I mean.)
I just succeeded in mapping a domain for my TypePad blog. All in all, a fairly straightforward operation--if you follow the instructions exactly. I followed TypePad's excellent instructions--it wasn't the first time I've done this...but after more than one exchange with tech support, I still couldn't get it to work.
I was only on my third go-round with tech support that I discovered the problem. The domain was not properly parked. It was just a click of a button, but that was enough to gum up the works and prevent the the blog from displaying upon entering the URL.
When working on the web or any such techie stuff, although you hardly have to be a nerd to map a domain name, it helps to have a clear head and a fresh set of eyes.
